Christine was born Christine Dunn on November the 9th 1938 at Farnley,Leeds. She attended Leeds Girls Grammar School and then Birmingham University where she gained an honour degree in Human Physiology. She played netball for the school, Yorkshire, the university and British universities. Whilst at university she met her husband to be and was persuaded to take up cycling and within 12 months rode her first time trial winning the handicap in the de Montfort ladies 10.

She quickly improved as a cyclist enjoying both time trials and road racing and track racing where 

She also broke the Welsh 25 mile solo  record. Her solo best times were 23-53,1-0-53,2-4-54,4-27-40 and 237.5miles.

She became an RTTC Timekeeper and Amateur Swimming Association coach gaining ,not surprisingly, the highest ever marks in the qualifying physiology examination and became coach to Great Harwood Otters Swimming Club where her two sons were members.
